History Of The Garage Doors Opening

The history of garage doors can be traced back to the early 1900s, when garages were first used for storage and work spaces. The earliest form was a single-panel sliding door, which had a large panel that slid up and down on tracks.

As technology progressed, so did the design, functionality and garage door sizes. Todays new garage door standard sizes can be broken up into 2 big categories: a single garage door and a double garage door.

Standard Single Garage Door Size

Standard single garage doors we see in Phoenix are a standard width of 8 feet and standard heights of 7 feet or 8 feet. These sizes vary depending on the height of your ceiling and other factors such as access space needed in front of the garage door.

Special sizes can also be ordered to fit any other needs that people will often use for storing other vehicles such as: golf carts, boats, small garden tractors, large riding lawnmowers, RVs, etc.

Single Car Garage

A smaller garage option is a single car garage that is 8 feet wide by 7 feet tall. Which is an economical way to add storage and park and protect your vehicle.

It provides a place to keep your vehicle safe from the elements, as well as providing a secure location for other items such as tools, lawnmowers, bikes, camping gear and more. A one car garage can come in various styles, sizes and materials.

Standard Double Garage Door Size

Standard double garage door sizes in Phoenix range from 16 feet wide by 7 feet high, to 18 feet wide by 8 feet high. These are the most common standard garage door option. The double wide garage opening can also be referred to as a two car garage as they typically will have enough room for two cars.

In most cases, a two car garage door provides an extra foot of height compared to a single car garage door making it’s standard height 8 feet as opposed to 7 feet. However, this may vary depending on the size and type of panels that are chosen for the door.

For larger vehicles like trucks or large SUV or for more storage space people will usually opt for a wider door if there garage architecture permits them to do so.

Two Car Garage

Having a two car garage is a great way to store not only your vehicles, but also have space for tools and other items that are used around the home. Whether you need to work on projects in the safety of your own garage or just need extra storage space for seasonal decorations, a two car garage offers plenty of benefits.

With ample room to move around in, store items securely and access two vehicles with ease, you’ll find that a two car garage is a great addition to any home.

Some of these two car garages have a double garage door opening. Meaning they have two single doors rather than one double door.

Three Car Garage

A three car garage is becoming more and more popular because it is a much larger garage. The majority of them will have one double door and one single door. However we also often see three single doors.

It is also very important to look at the architecture of your garage. Some older homes or smaller house sizes may not allow for you to change your garage doors dimension.

While if you are building a new garage door you can look at various door heights and door dimensions depending on your garage roof and the side wall.
